Wayne Whiteman, Senior Academic Professional in the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering is teaching the first Georgia Tech instructor-led on-demand MOOC on Coursera. On-demand means Whiteman’s “Introduction to Engineering Mechanics” is
- always available
- open to everyone in the world
- accessible for free.
On-demand courses do not have start dates or deadlines. The course format is self-paced, allowing the learner to complete the course on a schedule that works best for him or her.
Whiteman’s MOOC is an introduction to learning and applying the principles required to solve engineering mechanics problems. The topics parallel those taught in the first half of the on-campus Statics course offered at Georgia Tech. The course addresses the modeling and analysis of static equilibrium problems with an emphasis on real world engineering applications and problem solving.
On-demand courses are an all-new offering by Coursera. Starting soon, all on-demand courses will include quizzes and assessments so that students will have the option to successfully complete classes and earn Verified Certificates.
Within the next month, Whiteman anticipates his remaining three MOOC courses will be available on demand through Coursera. These include Applications in Engineering Mechanics (Statics-Part 2), Engineering Systems in Motion (2D Dynamics), and Advanced Engineering Systems in Motion (3D Dynamics).
To date, Whiteman’s MOOCs have reached an audience of over 60,000 active learners. Be sure to register for these Coursera MOOCs taught by Wayne Whiteman and join the rapidly growing online learning community.
